Garage door safety sensor
Warning please read
the following before attempting to change your garage door
sensors.
Garage door sensors
are designed for safety, before there were sensors around
people, cats and cars could get damaged by there garage door.
Making sure that your sensors are properly installed is
important, typically they are placed approximately 1 foot of
the ground.
Below is a picture of standard lift master garage door
safety sensors they can easily be installed by cutting the
wire from your old lift master sensor and matching up the wires
black to black and white to white.
however let's go through the instructions step by step.
Step 1 Unplug opener, and
remove old safety sensor wiring. You can easily remove the
wires from the motor head by depressing the plastic piece above
them and pulling the wire. Dismount the old garage door
sensors.
Note: be mindful of the way the wires were connected so you
no how to wire it back.
Step2 mount the new garage
door sensors in a way such that they are pointing at each
other, tighten the thumbscrew.
Step3 Staple wires neatly
(with rounded staples not flat ones) so the wires do not touch
any part of the moving garage door system. Be careful not to
staple wire this will cause sensor not to work. finally,
reconnect wires the same way that you removed them.
Genie garage door sensor
The genie sensor is the same install as the lift master with
an exception for the wiring... If you look how your old wiring
is and follow it you should have no problem.. You will notice
the wire goes from one sensor to the other and then to the
motor head. The wires are color coded so just put the like
colors together and you will do great!

Note: After plugging in your opener your sensors should have
two solid lights if not then they are either wired wrong or you
stapled the wires... in any case make sure you look at the
current wiring ... which should be series for genie garage door
sensors or parallel for lift master garage
door safety sensors.
FAQ:
Q: I changed my garage door safety sensor and my door still
will not go down.
A: when your garage door sensors are installed correctly you
should have a solid light on each for models with two sensors
and a solid light on models with one sensor. Check that the
sensors are properly aligned and that there is nothing blocking
them. Also make sure you are careful not to staple the wire
when you install the sensors. Your safety sensors are designed
with a normally open circuit so a staple will easily close the
circuit.
